Terrific Town Trip
Terrific Town Trip
Hello! How has your day been so far? Today I'm going to tell you all about a town trip I went on. So on the 20th of May, my Hub and I went on a Town trip to do some learning for our PBL.
When we got off the bus I was already so excited. Me and my team started off at Margaret Mahy playground where our teacher showed us all the special markings around the park.
Next, we headed over to see tuna and the mats and our teacher showed us all about how the mats are very deep so if something happens, they can dig them up and move them. We also fed the eels. But I have to admit, the eels kind of scared me.
After that, we ran over to the Waka. The lady taught us the commands for when we are in the Waka, after that we hopped in. My arms started to get tired, but I kept on going. I’m pretty sure we all enjoyed it.
Victoria Square was next, we learnt how Victoria Square used to be a trading centre where you traded food. There was a big pou and the eyes for the creatures were paua shells. There were also some Māori carvings that both looked different but really cool. But after a long day of learning we had to leave, but I am definitely coming back. For sure.
My favourite part of the trip was the Waka because we all worked together really well to make the Waka go along the Avon. And plus it was just really cool because it was my first time going on a real Waka. It was also my first time seeing a real Waka.
Something I learnt was that the mats are really deep and that they have different meanings. Also, there are 13 different mats around town. I never really noticed the mats.
The thing I found the most interesting was that all the designs around Margaret Mahy have a special meaning to them . Also how there is so much Māori culture around the city. I never knew there was so much Māori stuff around our city.
Well I hope you enjoyed my recount, maybe you should look around our city and find some of these things.
Question: Have you ever seen a real Waka and also, have you ever been on one?
